Important A+ Exam Announcement at CompTIA's Conference
At the annual CompTIA Breakaway conference in San Antonio, CompTIA announced that they were adding new content covering Windows 7 to their existing A+ exams. Normally, such changes would wait until the regular update schedule for the certification (every three years). However, due to feedback from the business community, CompTIA felt that Windows 7 was such an important trend in the industry that an immediate change was warranted.
When will the change take place?
Although CompTIA representatives did not share many details on the change, they did state that work had already begun on writing the new questions that would eventually make their way into the existing exams. Based on the approximate timeline, the earliest that Windows 7 questions would count towards the final score would likely be late December or early January (but possibly later).
How will the changes affect our CompTIA A+ product?
From our perspective, the announcement is relatively minor, with very little impact for our students. Here’s why:
- We already include Windows 7 Content:
As our products were under development for the new A+ exams, Windows 7 was already in final beta. Even though it was not required by the CompTIA objectives, we chose to include Windows 7 content in our product because we knew that people would need to be familiar with the newest operating system both at home and in the workplace. Comparing our content to the updated objectives, we only need to make minor additions to our course content. - Our content will be updated before the exams are available:
As CompTIA gets closer to including Windows 7 questions in their exams (both beta and eventually scored questions), we will update our exam preparation to also include practice questions for the new content. We anticipate having new practice questions added long before Windows 7 questions are required for the live certification exams.
